CT SCAN

Abdomen/Pelvis

  • Nothing to eat or drink 12 hours prior to the exam (NPO)

  • Pick up oral contrast from center - Free of Charge

  • First bottle taken 3 hours before the exam

  • Second bottle (half of bottle)  taken 30 minutes before and bring remaining bottle to the center.  You will take the remaining bottle when instructed by the Technologist
  • Blood work may required - Staff will determine if its needed and instructions will be given to you.

 

FLUOROSCOPY 

UGI   

  • NPO (Nothing to eat or Drink at least 12 hours prior to the exam. 

Esophogram

  • NPO – 12 hours prior

Small Bowel Follow Thru

  • NPO 12 hours prior

Modified Barium Swallow

  •  NPO  12 hours prior

 

MAMMOGRAMS

Day of Exam

  • No Deodorant
  • No Powder
  • No Perfume

 MRI

You may eat normally prior to the scan and take any prescribed medications with the following exceptions:

MRCP (magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography)

  • Nothing to eat or drink 6 hours prior to the scheduled exam. 

MRI of the Pelvis

  • Nothing to eat or drink 6 hours prior to the scheduled exam.

SEDATION is available if you have a driver for transportation home.  Arrival 30 minutes before the procedure is also required.

 

NUCLEAR MEDICINE

Myocardial Stress/Rest Scan

  • Nothing to eat for four (4) hours before your test.
  • No caffeine products for twelve (12) hours before your test.

Renal Scan

  • Drink several glasses of water before your test.

Gallbladder Scan

  • Nothing to eat or drink for five (5) hours before your test.

Thyroid Scan

  • Two (2) day study, instructions given at time of scheduling.

Muga Scan

  • No preparation needed

Bone Scan

  • No preparation needed

 

PET SCAN

  • Beginning two days before your exam, avoid strenuous activities since this will severely interfere with the results of your study.
     
  • No caffeine, alcohol or tobacco 24 hours prior to your exam.
  • Start a NO/LOW CARBOHYDRATE (sugar) diet 24 hours before your appointment. Avoid bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, candy, fruits and sugars. You can eat vegetables, eggs, meat (chicken, pork, beef), and whole grain breads.
  • DO NOT EAT for six (6) hours prior to your study.
  • Diabetics should fast for at least two (2) hours prior to the study.
  • You may take your medications with water the day of your exam. If you need pain medication please bring it with you. 
  • Please drink several glasses of water before arriving for your study.

If you require oxygen, please bring your portable device with you and enough oxygen to last for at least three hours.

Wear comfortable shoes and clothing. Do not wear jewelry or clothing that contains metal.

Plan on spending 2 to 3 hours at WNY PET/CT for your study.

Due to the high cost of the material for your PET exams, if you need to cancel/reschedule, please call 24 hours prior to your exam.

 

ULTRASOUND

Abdomen (Liver, Gallbladder & Right Upper Quadrant)

  • NPO (nothing to eat or drink) – 12 hours prior.

Pelvis

  • Four 8 oz glasses of water  - One hour & 15 minutes prior to appointment time – finish it within 30 minutes.

Abdomen and Pelvis together

  • NPO for 12 hours, except one hour & 15 minutes prior to appointment time drink four 8 oz glasses of water and finish it all within 30 minutes.

Renal/Kidneys (also kidneys, ureter & blader)

  •  Drink 8 oz fluid ½ hour prior to appointment. 

Fetal/Pregnancy

  • Two 8 oz glasses of water ½ hour prior to appointment.
  • During the third trimester no prep is required.

Venous Doppler – Lower extremity only

  • No preparation required

Testicular

  • No preparation required

Breast

  • No preparation required

Thyroid

  • No preparation required

Segmental Arterial Doppler w/ABI’s

  • No preparation required
